WebWhacker 3.2 for Windows 95/98/NT
Q:  What is a firewall or proxy server?
A:
A firewall acts as a security barrier between your internal network and the Internet, keeping other people on the Internet from gaining access to confidential information on your internal network. Firewall and proxy server mean the same thing.

Q:  How do I know if my computer is behind a firewall?
A:  If your Web browser is working correctly, you can look at its configuration to see if it is configured for a firewall. First, make sure WebWhacker is not running. In Netscape, select Options / Network Preferences..., then click on the Proxies tab. If No Proxies is selected, then your computer is not behind a firewall. If Manual Proxy Configuration is selected, you can click on View... to see the IP Address and Port Number of the proxy server. In Internet Explorer (IE) 2.0, look in the Control Panel under Internet. Select the Advanced tab and view the Proxy Server field. If you are using IE 3.0 or later, select View / Options... from within IE, then select the Connection tab. If the Connect through a Proxy Server box is not selected, then your computer is not behind a firewall. If that box is selected, you can click on Settings... to see the IP Address and Port Number of the proxy server. Another way to determine if your computer is behind a firewall is to ask your Network Administrator.

Q:  What is "passthru"? When should I have it turned on and when should I have it turned off?
A:  When you are using WebWhacker while online to whack pages, you want to be able to "passthru" WebWhacker to access the Web. When you are using WebWhacker while offline to view whacked pages, you dont want to "passthru" WebWhacker; you do want to view the whacked pages within WebWhacker. The passthru option in WebWhacker is in Tools / Preferences... on the Proxy Server tab. Select "Allow passthru on cache misses" when you are online and want to whack Web pages. Deselect that option when you are offline and want to view the whacked pages.
